Put Your Recovery First.

I sat at a dinner recently and I chatted to a lady who said something that I hear so often: “I wish I had more energy.” She actually told me she thought I was lucky, because I didn’t have that problem. She is right and I realized how lucky I am! I want you to be lucky too and that’s why I am writing this blog today.
In many ways (not all), we create most of the health-luck we enjoy with the choices we make. Luck is the product of a million choices made hourly, daily and weekly. Luck is the outcome of putting your own recovery first over and over again.
When I left the dinner, I wondered what I could have offered her to help her claim the vibrancy she yearned for and this is what inspired the blog that follows. If I look back over my life, I have been relentless in the pursuit of my own recovery. I have prioritized it daily. By recovery, I speak of emotional, mental, physical recovery. That prioritization has enabled me to find wholeness despite trauma, physical freedom, despite many injuries, and happiness, despite many disappointments. It’s not that I am special, it’s that this philosophy works.
When you put your own recovery at the front of every queue, everyone gets the best of you, you feel good, your body is health filled, everything gets your best effort and the people, projects and clients in your life get the very best of you. Most importantly, you get to live without lament and without regret. You get to feel alive and vital every day, and this is what you deserve. This is after all your one precious life you are living!
Slow down and figure out what it is you need to do for your own recovery, today and every day that follows. Is it attending your dysregulated nervous system? Is it your sleep problem that needs your attention, or your coffee addiction that is masking how exhausted you really are? Is it your less than pleasure-filled-sex-life that is damaging the connection you feel to your partner or yourself, or is it the 10kg that you continue to carry that’s keeping you stuck, or your ongoing, unresolved conflict? You know what you struggle with the most and if you take a moment, you also know what needs to be done to get you out of the stuckness you are experiencing. Now, put your own recovery first. Make it your priority.
Stop deceiving yourself, stop making excuses, or procrastinating and START. If you need help, come and get help, but START! Today! You have choices, whether you see that or not. If you can't see the choices you have, you need coaching to help you shine the light in your blind spot. Call to book a session or attend a course, like the one below. But take charge and direct yourself towards the aliveness you yearn for, TODAY!
The cost if you don’t is regret, disappointment in the way you have lived your life. That’s a hefty fee!
Put your recovery first.
